According to a report by Football Italia, Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly in a keen contest to secure the services of Joshua Zirkzee, the prolific striker currently making a name for himself at Bologna in Italy’s Serie A. Zirkzee’s football journey began in the Netherlands, where he developed his footballing skills in various youth academies including ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord, before joining Bayern Munich’s youth setup. Zirkzee’s professional career features notable moments, including scoring a hat-trick in his debut for Bayern Munich II and making impactful appearances for Bayern Munich’s senior team. His journey also includes loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht, leading to his permanent transfer to Bologna in August 2022
The need for a striker at both Arsenal and Manchester United is palpable. Arsenal, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, is in the midst of a possible title race, but desperately need to find their goalscoring form. The addition of a young, versatile player like Zirkzee could perfectly complement their fluid attacking style and ensure depth in their squad.
On the other hand, Manchester United’s forward line is young, thin and desperately needs reinforcements. A more experienced attacker would be better suited at the moment with young stars like Garnacho and Hojlund already present but if they do see potential in Zirkzee, the one thing they can offer him which other top clubs might not be able to is first team opportunities.
