Manchester United are close to appointing Ralph Rangnick as the interim manager at Old Trafford according to The Athletic. Ragnick is known for his excellent tactical and organization skills. He is also reportedly going to be continuing as a consultant  after his stint as an interim coach is over. This is going to be a very important appointment for Manchester United because they have struggled with decision making when it comes to the footballing side ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club.

Considering the squad composition of Manchester United at the moment, Ragnick would most probably go for the 4-2-3-1 formation. He has preffered various formations during his career as a coach like the 4-4-2,3-4-3 and the 4-2-2-2, but considering that the players are used to the 4-2-3-1, he is expected to start off with that.

A crucial aspect of Rangnick’s tactics is Gegenpressing. It remains to be seen whether he can implement a high level of pressing at United given the short time frame he has. Also another major problem for him will be Cristiano Ronaldo whose goal scoring form will delight him. But his unwillingness to run and press will be a problem for the German coach.

Another crucial area for Rangnick to solve is the composition of the United midfield. Van de Beek surely will be given a chance to play as a number 8 and stake a claim to that spot. Also, Bruno Fernandes’ role might change depending on what Rangnick wants out of him.
