Manchester United are the front-runners now in the race to sign Alexis Sanchez ahead of Manchester City. The deal United have offered Arsenal is apparently a cash+swap deal which means that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be moving from Old Trafford to the Emirates. Now Mkhitaryan is definitely a downgrade to Sanchez but if played in the right formation, the Armenian has the potential to make a real impact. Arsenal might be the right place for Mkhitaryan to get his faltering career back on track. Arsenal have many good ball playing players and they generally play with more of an attacking mindset than United under Mourinho.
Mkhitaryan will be offered more freedom playing in a back three formation at Arsenal rather than at United where he had much more defensive responsibilities. With Mkhitaryan in form, the front three of Arsenal can be more dynamic and interchange positions more regularly. He won’t demand the ball as much as Sanchez did, so this should bring more players in the game and increase Arsenal’s team fluidity. But on the other hand, he will find it hard to match the Chilean’s goal and assist contribution so Arsenal will depend on other attacking players like Ozil and Lacazette to share the burden more evenly.
