Speaking ahead of the FA Community Shield game against Arsenal, Conte admitted that he might be forced to ditch the 3-4-3 formation because of injuries. Hazard and Pedro are out injured and this might force Conte to go for a two striker formation which will see Morata and Batshuayi start together. Also considering the fact that Arsenal had beaten Chelsea in the FA Cup final last season, it might make sense for Conte to spring a surprise.

Chelsea starting lineup against Arsenal

Michi Batshuayi has had an excellent pre-season and he should start this season as the Conte’s first choice striker. But with Alvaro Morata being the club record transfer, there would be some pressure on Conte to play and integrate the Spaniard as soon as possible. The 3-5-2 formation allows Conte to pick both of them as his strikers. Morata has the ability to move to the flanks or play deep like a number 10, so at least on paper Morata and Batshuayi appear to be a match made in heaven.
