Barcelona is reportedly keen on signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, as the 22-year-old forward continues to impress during his loan stint at Getafe. Greenwood, who was loaned to Getafe during the summer transfer window, has been in excellent form, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 14 La Liga appearances.

According to the English outlet The Sun, Barcelona has been closely monitoring Greenwood’s performances and has even dispatched scouts to watch him in three consecutive games for Getafe. While Manchester United no longer considers Greenwood a part of their future plans, the player himself is reportedly open to staying in Spain and is welcoming Barcelona’s interest.

A source stated, “Barcelona is hugely interested in Greenwood and is determined to bring him in. Right now, they are leading the race and are at the front of the queue. Scouts have watched Greenwood and have been tasked with deciding if he fits in with Barcelona’s style of play. The overwhelming view is that he does and that he would be a strong addition to the squad.”

Greenwood’s transfer to the Madrid-based club took place in September, following Manchester United’s announcement the month prior that he would not be returning to play for the team. This decision came after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped allegations of attempted rape, assault, and controlling coercive behavior due to a key witness refusing to cooperate with the prosecution.

In response to these developments, Manchester United initiated an internal investigation into Greenwood’s conduct while maintaining his suspension with full pay, amounting to £75,000 per week. Also, Getafe had expressed interest in acquiring Greenwood’s services for a transfer fee of £40 million, but United wanted to keep the arrangement as a loan move.
