English outlet, Daily Mail, is reporting that Arsenal are interested in signing Lille midfielder Renato Sanches in January. Sanches’ current contract is expiring in the summer and the French club might be interested in cashing in on their star midfielder before they lose him on free. Sanches has previously played in the Premier League for Swansea but had endured a terrible time. He has rediscovered his form after moving to France and has also become a key player for his national side, Portugal.

The current Arsenal side have a big problem in center midfield with the poor form of Thomas Partey. Arsenal had high hopes on Partey, but he has struggled this season. Alongside Partey, Arteta has the option of choosing from Lokonga, Xhaka or Elneny, all of whom are not top players. Arsenal’s current crop of midfielders lack the ability and the energy to drive forward with the ball and contribute to the attack which Renato Sanches is capable of. A lot of times when Arsenal are in possession, there is a gap between the front 4 and the rest of the team, as none of the midfielders are capable of vertical movement to link the attack. This is a problem, Sanches can solve as he is someone who is capable of going past players with his pace and trickery. The Portuguese midfielder also has the energy to adapt to the Premier League’s high-intensity levels.

  1. Worth pointing out that if our midfielders had your required ‘vertical’ movement they would be heading skywards. Suggest you stop trying to sound clever
