According to a report in The Times, Edinson Cavani wants to join Barcelona in the summer after his contract with Manchester United expires. Cavani signed a one year contract extension last summer but the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and injury troubles meant that the Uruguayan has barely feature for United this season. The arrival of Ralf Rangnick might mean more opportunities for the hard working forward but it’s tough to see him play in his favoured number 9 spot current occupied by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona on the other hand are in a dire financial situation and would be happy to sign someone like Cavani on a free transfer. After Sergio Aguero’s cardiac problems and possible retirement, Barcelona will look for someone with experience to lead their attack as the rest of their attackers are pretty young. Also, playing a slower league will help Cavani manage his body better and reduce the amount of injuries. The Premier League is played at a higher pace with much more physical contact, so a move to the La Liga might help Cavani prolong his career.
