Barcelona face Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group stage game in which an unfavorable result can see them get knocked out and fall into the Europa League. The match will be played without fans in Munich because of Coronavirus restrictions imposed by the local government. Barcelona are second in the group currently with 7 points but anything other than a win against Bayern might see them finish third as Benfica are heavily favored to win against Dynamo Kyiv.

Barcelona’s 4-3-3 formation against Bayern Munich

The current Bayern side managed by Julian Nagelsmann play an aggressive and attacking style of football with pace and power. It will certainly be seen as an upset if Barcelona manage to beat Bayern in Germany. But for Barcelona to compete with Bayern, they have to adopt an attacking approach similar to the Germans which will be a high risk and a high reward strategy.

The 4-3-3 formation will allow Barca to push their full-backs high and play with a high line. They can use the pace of the returning Ousmane Dembele and Memphis Depay to exploit Bayern’s high line. But their midfield 3 need to be aggressive and composed with the ball to control the center of the pitch against Bayern. Only if the Catalan club manages to evade the Bayern press, they will be able to combine with their front three and construct attacks.

Xavi was full of praise for Ousmane Dembele after the game against Betis this weekend. So, we are confident that the Frenchman will start against the Germans. Playing Dembele will be a high risk gamble as the Frenchman will not do much defending but his pace will help Barca to get in behind Bayern’s defence.
