After another disastrous performance in the league against Watford, Manchester United are finally looking to replace manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer according to a report by The Times. The report claims that the Glazer family has given the authority to club officials to increase the financial offer to Zinedine Zidane and convince him to take over at Old Trafford. United have also called an emergency board meeting to discuss the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer today.
MAN UNITED’S PREDICTED 4-3-3 FORMATION IF ZIDANE IS APPOINTED AS MANAGER
The period after the City loss was the perfect time to sack Solskjaer as there was a two week break due to international football. United didn’t choose to act during the break and now after the defeat against Watford have barely any time to get in another manager before United’s crucial Champions League game against Villareal on Tuesday. Like all other footballing decisions taken after Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, even this decision not to sack Solskjaer early is incompetence of the highest level. It was clear for everybody that United didn’t have a style of play and the coaching and tactics were just non-existent.
There also might be questions over how Zinedine Zidane will handle Manchester United’s bloated squad. At Real Madrid, many will point out that, Zidane had a world class starting eleven with decent backup and the Frenchman didn’t have to do much to get the best out of them. Even United’s squad has world class players, it’s highly unbalance. They have a plethora of attackers vying for a couple of spots but not many midfielder who can dictate and control the play. United’s next manager has to come up with a system which works well with United’s current squad.
Managers like Brendan Rodgers and Eric ten Haag might be better suited as in the long term, as they are more “philosophy-driven” manager who will stick to their tactical philosophy and try to work within that framework rather than changing according to the players available.
