Raheem Sterling’s representatives have reportedly informed Manchester City that the Englishman wants to leave in the January transfer window and has no intention of signing a contract extension at the moment according to the English outlet Daily Star. The report also mentions that Sterling sees Arsenal as an “attractive option” and quotes journalist Ian McGarry who claims that Arsenal will be the likeliest destination if City do choose to let go of Sterling.
Sterling’s chances at City this season have been limited due to form of Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva both of whom operate either on the left flank or as a false 9, two positions preferred by Sterling. With the lack of chances at City, Sterling will also be concerned about his place in the England national team with the World Cup coming up in the winter of 2022. City wouldn’t mind letting Sterling join Arsenal as they would not view the London club as direct competitors. So a loan move in January isn’t out of question but with Sterling’s contract expiring in 2023, City might want to sell him rather than sending him on a loan move.
