Jose Mourinho has started his second season at Manchester United with all guns blazing. With a 100% record in the Premier League till date, Manchester United finally look like they ll at least be in the running for the title for the first time after Sir Alex Ferguson left. With Champions League football returning this year to Old Trafford, Mourinho has the responsibility to ensure that United compete on all fronts. After three transfer windows at United, Mourinho has made some impressive signings with the help of Ed Woodward. Let’s take a look at United’s squad composition and the impressive depth they have across the pitch.

 

Manchester United Squad Depth 2017/18

With several versatile players at his disposal, United’s depth is in fact even better than what the above picture depicts.

Goalkeepers

In David De Gea, Manchester United have one of the best goalkeepers in the world but more importanly in Sergio Romero, they have an experienced and dependable backup. Romero probably is the best backup goalkeeper in the league at the moment.

Central Defenders

United have 5 recognised central defenders and players like Daley Blind and Axel Tuanzebe can also play as a central defender if there is a need. Currently, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are the Mourinho’s preferred defenders.

Fullbacks

Antonio Valencia has established himself as one of the league’s best right backs with Matteo Darmian who is a regular for Italy as his backup. Darmian can also play as a left back where he has competition from Daley Blind and from Luke Shaw when he returns from his injury.

Midfielders

Last season’s Manchester United player of the year, Ander Herrera has still not made a single appearance in the Premier League thanks to the outstanding form of Nemanja Matic. Along with Paul Pogba, Mourinho has the further options of Michael Carrick, Fellaini and Scott Mctominay.

Wingers

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are fighting it out for the left wing spot where was on the right it is between Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Mourinho also has the option of playing Jesse Lingard who can play on both the sides.

Forwards

With the re-signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Swede provide competition for Romelu Lukaku has started the season on fire. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial can also play up front if needed to.
