NBA star Lebron James who owns a minority stake in the club wants the clubs to open negotiations with Barcelona in order to facilitate Coutinho’s transfer according to Sport. Lebron James became a shareholder of Liverpool Football Club in 2011 after his agreement with Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group who also own the Boston Red Sox.

It is unclear whether this have any sort of impact on the transfer which looks highly unlikely at the moment. Although Coutinho has made it clear with his transfer request and his ‘back injury’ that he wants to leave the club and sign for Barcelona, the owners have not budged and reiterated that he is not for sale every time Barca make a bid. Ironically, Liverpool were unable to sign two of their top transfer targets in Virgil Van Dijk and Naby Keita because their respective clubs refused to sell despite the fact that the players were interested in moving to anfield.
