Olivier Giroud has been told by Arsene Wenger that he is no longer in the manager’s plans and can leave the club according to the Metro. Giroud has not been able to establish himself at Arsenal although he still boasts a decent goalscoring record. Wenger’s use of Sanchez in a striker’s role and selecting Danny Welbeck after he recovered from his injury as his main striker made it clear that Giroud needed a miracle this summer to stay on at the Emirates.
French clubs Lyon and Marseille are reportedly interested in Giroud who was the French league’s top goalscorer before he left for Arsenal. At his age, Giroud probably has a couple of years more in his prime and will be an good signing for clubs in the French Ligue.
Although Arsenal have been linked with Kylian Mbappe, it is highly unlikely that the teenager will move to Arsenal this summer. Alexander Lacazette remains the primary target to replace Giroud. But with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea involved, nothing is confirmed till the player actually signs the contract.
