According to The Sun , Jose Mourinho has called up Michael Carrick who is on a holiday to convince him to sign a contract extension with Manchester United. Carrick whose contract was set to expire this summer was widely expected to leave the club when Van Gaal was in charge. But Mourinho seems to think otherwise and wants the experienced midfielder to stay on. Carrick who has been left out of the Euro 2016 squad by Roy Hodgson has been an integral part of the United squad for a decade now.
One of the first names on the teamsheet for Man United under Sir Alex Ferguson, his calm passing and intelligent positioning were one of the best in the game. The 2015-16 season was when Carrick showed clear signs of decline but the lack of a in-form midfield partner also didn’t help his case. In a dressing room filled with youngster, it is important to retain some experience and with Wayne Rooney, he is the only one of the old guard let at United and Mourinho has made a very sensible decision in trying to sign him for one more year.
