Barcelona’s left back Jordi Alba has injured himself while playing for Spain and is a big doubt for the game against Real Madrid.
Alba sprained his ankle during ESP game yesterday. Not yet clear if he will be available for the game against Madrid on Saturday. [rac1]

One of the best left-backs in the game, Alba is a key player whose ability to run up and down the pitch is an integral part of Barcelona’s attack too. If Alba doesn’t recover in time, then Enrique will be forced to field Jeremy Mathieu as left back and he probably will be up against Gareth Bale. The Frenchman will struggle against Bale’s pace and trickery and this lopsided battle between these two could be key in deciding the game.
Most of the club managers hate international breaks for this very reason, key players travel long distances without enough recovery time just to play meaningless friendlies and end up getting injured. The Club vs Country debate is an old one in football, but FIFA certainly has to step in and take some hard decisions regarding this. International managers on the other hand also have very less time to assess their squads and with the Euros in the summer, every manager has to make decisions regarding his squad. These friendlies are the only way a manager can assess his players at the international level.
