England’s expected starting lineup against Costa Rica

2 minutes

England play Costa Rica at Elland Road on June 7th in what will be their final friendly game before they head off to Russia for the FIFA World Cup 2018. Gareth Southgate has named an young and inexperienced squad to the World Cup but will certainly hope that the lowered expectations this time around will help his players to perform better. England has perennially under-performed in big tournaments even when they had a world class team. This time around, with a young team, Southgate has ensured that there is not much pressure or expectation heading into the World Cup. England’s expected starting lineup against Costa Rica

Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Alexander-Arnold, Dier, Henderson, Rose; Alli, Lingard; Kane

Gareth Southgate most probably will play with a back three formation in Russia and so we expect him to select a similar formation against Costa Rica. Walker will continue as a center back with Alexander-Arnold and Danny Rose as the wing backs. A midfield of Henderson and Dier is a big problem area for the three lions because both of them don’t offer much creativity and guile when it comes to breaking down the opposition. The onus of creating chances will fall on the front three with Harry Kane responsible for leading the line and the team as he has been named as the captain by Southgate.
