Ryan Giggs is set to leave Manchester United after rejecting United’s offer of a lesser role according to the Daily Mail. Giggs who was the assistant manager under Louis Van Gaal is set to be replaced by Rui Faria who is a long time associate of Jose Mourinho. Although Mourinho wanted Giggs to stay at Old Trafford, it was clear to the Welshman that he won’t be the assistant manager anymore. Giggs who himself had harbored hopes of becoming the next manager now has to look for opportunities elsewhere.

Being assistant manager during Van Gaal’s reign has affected Giggs’ reputation negatively as he was seen as someone who didn’t stand up for the club’s attacking traditions. Van Gaal’s tenure at United was filled with tepid and boring football a world apart from when Ferguson was the boss at Manchester United. This might be a blessing in disguise for Giggs who can now make a name for himself at a lesser club and then become the Manchester United where he always will be welcome.
