West Ham United have been one of the most active Premier League clubs this summer, securing eight new signings. However, as the transfer window enters its final stretch, the Hammers are reportedly gearing up for one more crucial addition: Paris Saint-Germain’s Spanish midfielder Carlos Soler.
According to L’Equipe, West Ham is in advanced talks with PSG to secure the services of the 27-year-old. The French champions are open to selling Soler for a fee in the region of £17 million, with West Ham hopeful of finalizing the deal before the transfer deadline.
Carlos Soler Barragán, born on January 2, 1997, began his professional journey at Valencia, where he made 226 appearances and scored 36 goals. His time at Valencia was highlighted by winning the Copa del Rey in 2019, where he played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Soler was known for his versatility, starting his career as a striker before transitioning to an attacking midfielder and eventually settling into a central midfield role. His development was rapid, and he soon became one of Valencia’s most dependable players.
In September 2022, Soler made the move to Paris Saint-Germain for an €18 million fee. During his first season with PSG, Soler helped the team clinch the Ligue 1 title, contributing with crucial goals in both domestic and European competitions. Despite his success in France, Soler has found himself more often on the bench under the management of Luis Enrique, who had previously coached him in the Spanish national team.
A versatile midfielder, Soler is lauded for his passing accuracy, vision, and ability to hold onto the ball under pressure. Primarily playing as a central midfielder, he can also be deployed as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing, making him an attractive option for West Ham as they look to strengthen their squad.
West Ham’s summer business has already seen the arrival of key players like Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Füllkrug, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luis Guilherme. After finishing ninth in the Premier League last season, the Hammers are aiming for a significant improvement in the 2024-25 campaign, with Carlos Soler potentially playing a key role in their resurgence under new coach Julen Lopetegui.
