According to the BBC, West Ham United has initiated discussions with Borussia Dortmund regarding a potential transfer for Niclas Füllkrug, the German striker. Füllkrug, 31, showcased his scoring prowess by netting twice at Euro 2024, contributing significantly to Germany’s advance to the quarter-finals. This has made him a sought-after figure for West Ham’s manager, Julen Lopetegui, as the Hammers aim to strengthen their attacking options. West Ham’s pursuit of Füllkrug is part of a broader strategy to enhance their forward line, with interest also being shown in Aston Villa’s Colombian forward, Jhon Durán.

Füllkrug’s performance in the 2023-24 season was notable, as he scored 16 goals in 46 appearances for Dortmund, helping the team reach the UEFA Champions League final, where they were narrowly defeated by Real Madrid. Along with his physcial presence upfront , his consistent ability to find the back of the net, it’s no surprise that West Ham sees him as a valuable addition. Meanwhile, West Ham are also eyeing Manchester United’s full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to fortify their defense, reflecting a balanced approach to squad strengthening.

This summer has already seen West Ham make significant moves in the transfer market, with the acquisition of Wolves’ captain Max Kilman for £40 million, alongside goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme. The potential signing of Füllkrug would be another step to mold the squad in a way Lopetegui wants as he aims to enhance West Ham’s competitiveness in the Premier League.
