Liverpool’s winless streak in 2023 in the Premier League continues as they were thoroughly defeated 3-0 by Wolves at Molineux.Jürgen Klopp’s team had a rough start to the game, falling behind by two goals in the first 12 minutes due to an own goal from Joël Matip and a header from debutant defender Craig Dawson.Wolves extended their lead with a well-placed finish from Rúben Neves in the 71st minute.
The loss on Saturday keeps Jürgen Klopp’s team in tenth place in the Premier League and marks their third consecutive defeat on the road, following previous losses to Brentford and Brighton. Although Liverpool currently are struggling all over the pitch, their defending has been pretty shambolic in the recent past. Jamie Carragher was pretty clear with his view on Liverpool’s central defenders on Twitter.
It’s not too difficult to play Centre Back next to the leader of the back four, judge CB’s when they have to lead themselves.

It’s unclear why Gomez and Matip struggle so much without Van Dijk in the lineup. When playing alongside the Dutchman, both have appeared to be top-notch center backs. However, without Virgil, they seem to falter. Matip, in particular, had a disastrous performance at Molineux today, appearing frightened in the early stages of the game.
