Liverpool face off against Atletico Madrid in their Champions League group stage match on Wednesday. They can qualify for the next round if they manage to beat Atletico with two games to spare which would give Klopp the opportunity to rest players. Klopp confirmed that Naby Keita is out of the game with injury but there is positive news for Liverpool with Fabinho and Thiago back in contention.
Liverpool Expected Formation against Atletico Madrid
Although Fabinho and Thiago have returned to training, we don’t expect Klopp to start them in what would be a bruising and tough match against Atletico. This would mean that forgotten man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will start in midfield along with Curtis Jones and Jordan Henderson. There was some criticism about Chamberlain’s performance in midfield against Brighton after he came on for Naby Keita although he delivered a beautiful assist for Mane’s goal. The criticism was more focused on The Ox not working well on the right side of midfield with Salah and Trent but this was refuted by Klopp later.
“The right side worked really well together with Naby, Trent and Mo. Oxlade came on and Oxlade obviously [has] a completely different skillset.
“Completely different to Naby, very good one as well, but different. By the way, he set up the second goal!
“It was not about Oxlade, it’s just about how you do things usually, then you have to change them, all these kinds of things.
“Against a lot of opponents, that would not have been that really obvious, but against Brighton it was. That’s all we can say”
