Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seemingly survived the disastrous 5-0 loss against Liverpool according to many media reports. But the games are not going to get any easier for him and Manchester United. This weekend United visit Spurs, then they travel to Italy to play Atalanta and then they welcome champions Man City for the Manchester derby. This weekend’s fixture against Spurs might be the easiest considering the form Spurs are in.

After the humiliation against Liverpool, we can expect Solskjaer to fall back on his previously successful counter-attacking low block tactic. This tactic has not been tried by Ole ever since the signing of Ronaldo so it remains to be seen how Cristiano handles it. Also, with Pogba facing a three match ban for his red card against Liverpool, Solskjaer’s midfield selection dilemma becomes easier to resolve.

Man United expected formation against Spurs

According to early team news on Manunited.com, it looks like Varane and Martial might be fit enough for the game. Manchester United fans will especially pleased with the return of Varane as United’s defence has been in shambles over the past few games. Other than Varane coming in, Ole will look to inject more energy in the front three. So we can expect to see the return of Edison Cavani and Jadon Sancho. Cavani might have to reprise his left sided role from his days at PSG in order to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo.

In midfield, Nemanja Matic is sure to return as he generally excels in a low block. It is in games where United is expected to press and there is a lot of space to cover in midfield, Matic struggles. Fernandes can be expected to play a much more conservative role, moving deeper in to midfield similar to the role he plays for Portugal.

  1. matic and fred together no way. Only one of them plus de beek to have opportunity now and bring more creativity along with bruno. Sancho on the right yes.
Edinson on left not sure. Perhaps start with rashford and edison on bench but he should get a run. Greenwood on bench okay but get a run also if needed.

    1. Lol Ole will not start van de Beek. With Pogba out, no option but to start matic and fred. I would prefer cavani up top and Ronaldo left.

  2. Ole this formation cannot work how can matic and Fred be I think mctominey should start the match and cavani on the left no way if you go with this formation we’re gonna lose this game and I am not lying
