There have been several reports on Antonio Conte being interested in the Manchester United job along with reports that the United dressing room has lost their confidence in current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Solskjaer’s position as the manager is under serious pressure after the 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool. But United don’t have many options for a replacement at the moment. Antonio Conte is a proven Premier League manager but his style and tactics do not exactly align with United’s history. Let’s take a look how his Manchester United team would lineup if he did get the job.

Conte’s 3-4-3 formation at United

Antonio Conte’s Premier League title win with Chelsea was built on a back three defence and he generally relied on a 3-4-3 formation. He setup his side to be solid defensively and attack using the wing backs on the counter. At Manchester United, he might not have the right players to execute his preferred formation but he has shown with the likes of Victor Moses and David Luiz that he has the ability to make players with limited ability work well in his system.

Defence

Defence probably is the easiest area for Conte to sort out as United have a good collection of center backs and decent full backs. Eric Bailly whose career has stagnated might relish the opportunity to play in a back three. Luke Shaw would adapt easily to the wing back role where as Wan-Bissaka would have to improve his attacking output.

Midfield

This area would be Conte’s biggest concern and he would probably demand the United board to sign someone to his liking. He prefers more defensively minded options and United’s current options are lacking. We can expect to see a more defensive minded Pogba if he ever gets to play under Conte.

Attack

Conte might not ask for more attacking signings but quite a few of United’s attackers might see their playing time cut short. He would most likely limit the number of attacking players on the pitch to three but with the plethora of options United have at the moment, a lot of players might have to be moved on.

  1. Please god just sack him. He was never good enough to manage United on a permanent basis anyway, he took Cardiff down.

  2. The team is built from backroom staff …man u is clueless whn it comes to free kicks .corners .throws . Players fitness levels and fluency is not like other teams i watch chsmpionship matches ..one can c the manager is on touchline screaming at his players to gv off the best our manager shld rather buy season ticket and watch from higher up in stand than sitting in 3rd row .every team that came bk frm int break are more fitter thn man u.
