According to the English outlet, Daily Mail, Manchester United are set to start their midfield star, Paul Pogba on the bench in their first game after the restart against Tottenham. Daily Mail who in their article quote The Athletic as their source, also claim that Pogba has trained well after returning from his injury but United are still preparing to play a 3 man midfield with Fernandes and two of McTominay, Fred and Matic. Fernandes’ arrival has seen United play their best football of the season but that period also coincided with Pogba’s injury which has raised the question of how would Solskjaer fit in both Pogba and Fernandes in the same team.

Solskjaer would prefer to stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation as United’s excellent run of form before the lockdown was mainly based on the 4-2-3-1 and at times on a back three formation in the big games. The defence selects itself as Maguire, Lindelof and Wan-Bissake have cemented their spots with the only doubt being Luke Shaw at left back who has been challenged this season by Brandon Williams. Williams has performed impressively when given the chance but at times his inexperience shows, so we can expect Shaw to play against Tottenham.

With Rashford coming back to fitness, Solskjaer will have all his attackers available. A front three of Martial, Rashford and James will be expected to lineup as United will want to hurt opposition defences on the counter using their attackers’ speed.

Another interesting subplot during this game would of course be Jose Mourinho, who would want to beat his old team after he was sacked at Old Trafford. There have been reports that Mourinho has been talking about Solskjaer’s lack of experience and a second defeat to Ole this season would only hurt the Portuguese coach even more.
