The English outlet, The Sun reports that Arsenal are set to complete a deal for Philippe Coutinho this week from Barcelona. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta according to the report views Coutinho as his dream signing this summer to reinvigorate the flailing Arsenal squad. Coutinho, meanwhile has failed to impress his current club Bayern Munich as they have chosen not to activate the option of making his loan deal permanent.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German magazine Der Spiegel:
“The option expired and we haven’t activated it. We’re going to plan our squad for next season and we’ll see if he still has a role to play with us or not.”
With Bayern choosing not to activate their option, a host of clubs around Europe would be interested in securing Coutinho for the next season. But Barcelona’s asking price might be a deal break as the Catalan giants will want to recoup as much as possible for their record signing. Along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton are also rumoured to be interest in Coutinho. A return to the Premier League might help Coutinho rediscover his best form as he has been underwhelming both in the La Liga and in Bundesliga post his transfer from Liverpool
