Manchester United face Liverpool this weekend in the Premier League at Anfield. Liverpool are top of the league and are still unbeaten in what promises to be a great season for them, where as United are struggling in 6th position and their prospects of finishing in the top 4 look tiny at the moment. One advantage United will have over their fierce rivals is the fact that Mourinho can rest all of his key players in the Champions League game against Valencia, but Liverpool need to beat Napoli to be assured of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Manchester United fans would love to be the first team to beat Liverpool and derail their Premier League title challenge but on current form Liverpool are massive favourites. United’s improved performances against Arsenal and Fulham didn’t feature their record signing Paul Pogba from the start. United’s midfield has protected their defence better without Pogba and although they certainly miss his flair in the middle of the park, Mourinho believes that United are better of without Pogba on current form.

“He has to play with the same mentality that the team has been playing with. Paul can be a fantastic player. He has the potential to be a fantastic player.”

Another expensive signing who has struggled to find his form this season has been Romelu Lukaku. He has recently blamed his excessive muscle mass as the reason for his poor form but if that really is the case, Lukaku should have simply taken a break from football and worked on his physique. Against a team which presses hard like Liverpool do, Lukaku’s poor touch and technique will be a liability. If Mourinho wants to play long ball bypassing Liverpool’s midfield, Fellaini would be a far better option to play as a forward than Lukaku.
