Barcelona’s sporting director Ariedo Braida was in Italy this weekend to watch Juventus defender Joao Cancelo and in-demand Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic according to a report in the English outlet Express. Barcelona have had a stuttering start to the season with Lionel Messi saving them repeatedly in many matches. Defensively, they have struggled having conceded 11 goals already. With Messi out injured for the next few weeks, Barcelona will have a difficult time against the likes of Inter and Real Madrid, who are their next immediate opponents.

Real Madrid’s terrible start to the season has been a relief to Ernesto Valverde but there has been criticism from many quarters about Barcelona’s form. Having seen Real Madrid win back to back Champions League, there is tremendous pressure on Valverde to deliver the Champions League this season. Their attack seems sorted with Ousmane Dembele and Coutinho looking like they can shoulder some goal-scoring burden. But the defence and surprisingly the midfield remain the problem areas for Barcelona.
