For once, Arsenal are making their signings early in the summer transfer window and not waiting for the last moment. Unai Emery seems to have been entrusted with a transfer budget so all his signings are quite cheap considering the current transfer market but all the three signings are expected to straightway fit into the first team. The deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos has not been confirmed officially because Dortmund don’t want the transfer to go through before the next financial year which starts on July 1.

Unai Emery’s expected 4-2-3-1 formation for Arsenal

It is clear that with Jack Wilshere set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer, Emery wants to build his team around Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman hasn’t been comfortable in playing as part of the midfield 2, so expect him to be given the number 10 role. Mesut Ozil for all his criticism still remains Arsenal’s most creative player. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is too good to be left on the bench so he needs to adapt to a left sided attacking role to fill the void left by Alexis Sanchez. Lucas Torreira will partner Granit Xhaka in the double pivot which has been a problem area for Arsenal for many years now. This certainly looks like an exciting team on paper for Arsenal, but we will have to wait till the season starts to know whether they can perform on the pitch.
