Jose Mourinho reportedly has launched an transfer enquiry for Chelsea’s Brazilian star Willian according to the Express. The report also claims that Mourinho only enquired about Willian so that Chelsea’s interest in Anthony Martial is curtailed. The Frenchman looks increasingly isolated and lonely after Alexis Sanchez’s arrival and a summer transfer out of Old Trafford is not entirely impossible. The problem for Jose Mourinho at the moment is that he has three attacking players who prefer playing on the left in Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford but doesn’t have a true right winger.

This season Mourinho has picked Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and at times even Martial to play on the right but none of them have impressed. Also when on the left wing, as Sanchez is the first choice and he likes to cut in and stay near the box, it is important for United to have a right winger who will provide them width. United’s lack of width from their wingers make it difficult for them to exploit Romelu Lukaku’s strength in the air. United need to maintain width on atleast one side of the pitch to stretch the opposition and put in some crosses towards Lukaku.

Willian ticks all these boxes and also has been in excellent form for Chelsea this season. Also he is someone who has excelled under Mourinho previously and also is disciplined and follows his manager’s instructions. He does track back, a quality Mourinho loves in his wingers and also has pace to burn on the counter. Whether Chelsea will make the same mistake of letting go a key player to their rivals like they did last year with Matic remains to be seen but signing Willian will ensure that United have a more balanced attack than last year.
