According to The Daily Star, Manchester United are ready to make a £62m bid for Real Madrid star, Raphael Varane who shares a very good relationship with Jose Mourinho. It was Mourinho who gave Varane his first opportunity at Real Madrid and that good relationship has continued. Although, United have a plethora of central defenders, Mourinho has not been impressed by them so far. The best of the lot, Eric Bailly is rumoured to have issues with Mourinho and it is not clear whether the former Villareal player has a future at Old Trafford or not. Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof all have been inconsistent and have a mistake in them. Phil Jones still has injury problems and struggles to keep himself fit for a continued period.

Mourinho will probably buy a couple of full backs as well in the summer, as this season his first choice full backs have been Valencia and Ashley Young who are in their thirties and are primarily wingers. Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw will leave the club in the summer most likely and it remains to be seen whether Mourinho decides to get rid of any of the central defenders United have on their books.
