Everton star Wayne Rooney has opened talks with D.C United over a summer move to MLS according to the Washington Post. Rooney still has a year left on his contract at Everton but reportedly is not happy at his boyhood club. Everton have struggled this season in the Premier League and for someone who has fought for titles for more than a decade, the change must have been difficult. Rooney did start the season well, scoring 10 goals in the league by December but failed to find the net in the second half of the season.
Sam Allardyce confirmed that he wanted Rooney to stay at Everton but a good offer from D.C United will be hard to refuse for the club. It is clear that Rooney at 32 is no more the player he was at Manchester United but still can show the occasional brilliance. He will surely eclipse Zlatan as MLS’ biggest star if he moves to the states.
