Man United can lose star for free in summer with foreign clubs free to enter contract negotiations

Manchester United are in danger of losing Juan Mata for free in the summer as the Spaniard has only 6 more months on his contract with United. Foreign clubs have been free to start contract negotiations with Mata since January 1st but there has been no indication of any interest from abroad. United have been expected to activate a 12 month extension to the Spaniard’s contract but the fact that they have not yet done it is a matter of concern. If Alexis Sanchez does sign for Man United this transfer window, Juan Mata will find his already limited first team opportunities further reduced.

Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera also are on the last 6 months of their contract with United but it is expected that the club will exercise a one year extension clause. Just a few weeks back, Shaw’s future was unclear but he has forced himself into Mourinho’s plans. Now it looks like the Portuguese manager is willing to give Shaw another chance at United.
