Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi is reportedly in London to discuss a transfer move either to Arsenal or Everton according to The Sun. The former Blackburn midfielder has been left out of the squad for Sevilla’s Champions League game on Wednesday. N’Zonzi has reportedly had a falling out with his manager, Eduardo Berizzo during the 3-3 draw against Liverpool in the Champions League. N’Zonzi has been a revelation for Sevilla since he joined from Stoke City, excelling in a defensive midfield role.
A busy midfielder, N’Zonzi revels in breaking up attacks and is adept in recycling possession. At 29, he doesn’t have many years left at the top but will be an excellent signing especially with his Premier League experience.
Arsenal’s 3-4-3 formation with Steven N’Zonzi
Granit Xhaka has been quite error-prone so far in his Arsenal career. But Wenger’s other options, Coquelin and Elneny don’t inspire much confidence forcing the Frenchman to pick the Swiss midfielder. Arsenal have been vulnerable against the counter especially in the big game like we saw against Liverpool and more recently against Manchester United. Although, one can point out Arsenal’s defensive mistakes, a solid defensive midfielder will only help break the counters and cut out the mistakes.
Compared to Xhaka, N’Zonzi is definitely limited in his offensive play but Wenger would be willing to sacrifice that in the big games where Arsenal’s defensive vulnerabilities have repeatedly hurt them.
