Anthony Martial’s great form this season has forced Jose Mourinho to reassess his transfer policy according to a report by the Independent. Martial who was often criticized by Mourinho last year has had a dramatic improvement in performances this year and at least for the moment established himself in the starting lineup. Mourinho who openly coveted Ivan Perisic in the summer wanted a traditional left winger who could deliver crosses from the byline. If United’s pursuit of Perisic had proven to be successful, Martial’s gametime this season would have been severely limited.
Instead, the Frenchman has proven his doubters wrong and convinced Mourinho to alter his transfer plans. Mourinho wanted to again go after a player similar to Perisic along with another marquee attacking signing. Now he might be inclined to look at strengthening other areas of the pitch like both the fullback positions and an able deputy to Paul Pogba in midfield.
In recent times United’s interest in Antoinne Griezmann seems to have cooled off after reports emerged that the Frenchman was set to sign a deal with Barcelona. Even with Martial in great form, United need more attacking options and Griezmann will be an excellent fit. Gareth Bale is another player linked with United but the Welshman’s recent injury record puts a big doubt on the move.
