Mourinho told to sell before he can buy: 4 United players who can be sold in January

2 minutes

Jose Mourinho has been told by the Manchester United board that he must offload players in January before they sanction funds to sign new players. United already have a bloated squad with too many fringe players on high wages so United’s board want to cut some costs before sanctioning another signing. Let’s take a look at some of the players whose United career might come to a sudden end in January.

Luke Shaw

For all his talent, Shaw’s United career never really took off. Dogged by injuries and accused of poor atitude by both Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, reports suggest that Shaw is not even on talking terms with Jose at the moment. United fans had high expectations from Shaw, but it looks likely that his time at Old Trafford is up.

Matteo Darmian

Another fullback who has failed to establish himself at United, Darmian has found his chances limited after Mourinho’s arrival. The Italian was subject to interest from different clubs in the summer but Mourinho refused to let him go. But this time around, Mourinho might change his mind.

Daley Blind

Blind was one of the mainstays of Van Gaal’s time at United playing as a center back most of the time. Mourinho doesn’t see him as a center back nor has he played him in midfield. His verstality has proved useful for United in the past but a plethora of options of central defenders means that the only position available for him is left back. But Mourinho prefers Ashley Young to Blind so the Dutchman might be shown the door in January.

Juan Mata

Jose Mourinho might sell Juan Mata for the second time in his career. When Mourinho joined United, he claimed that Mata will remain a part of his plans although it was him who sold Mata to United when he was at Chelsea. Mata has rarely ever been picked in the big games and with his contract running out, United might want to recoup some of the fee they paid.
