There was good news for Manchester United ahead of their game against Watford as Romelu Lukaku was let off without a ban for his kick during the game against Brighton. Watford have been impressive this season under Marco Silva and if United don’t improve from their performance against Brighton, the Hornets might walk away with all the three points. They have won two consecutive matches against Newcastle and West Ham and will surely make life difficult for United on Tuesday.
Against Brighton, Mourinho opted to select an attacking lineup with Lukaku, Martial, Rashford and Mata starting along with Paul Pogba. After the game, Mourinho did admit that United lacked control in the middle of the park as Brighton were continuously threatening them on the counter. After a performance like that and considering that playing Watford at Vicarage Road is a difficult ask this season, Mourinho is bound to opt for a safety first approach and select a defensive minded team.
Man United starting lineup against Watford
A 4-3-3 formation will allow Mourinho to play Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic behind Pogba which will allow the Frenchman more freedom to support Romelu Lukaku. Although United fans would love to see either Rashford or Martial lead the line, Mourinho is expected to stick with the Belgian who has been out of sorts for sometime now. The defence is expected to remain the same as against Brighton with both Bailly and Jones still out with injuries.
