According to Canal +, a France based news outlet, Manchester United are in advanced negotiations to sign Bernardo Silva of Monaco. Canal + usually don’t report on rumours and when they do they are often spot on. Several reports have linked the Portuguese midfielder to United but this report by Canal + certainly means that there is some movement behind the scenes.

Although Silva is outrageously talented and will only improve in the future, he doesn’t solve any of United’s problems. United’s midfield is highly unbalanced with a number of players vying for the number 10 role. Mata, Mkhitaryan, Fellaini, Pogba and Rooney, all play their best football as the number 10. Where as only Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera are naturally suited to playing in defensive midfield. Pogba has struggled when played as part of the midfield two, so Mourinho’s top priority this summer should be signing a defensive midfielder as well as a striker. Bernardo Silva is too good a talent to ignore, but Mourinho should first solve the crippling issues United’s squad has.
