Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been rampant this season. Except for a 2-0 loss to Burnley, they have outrun, outpassed and out-tackled all of their opponents. United on the other hand have run the lowest in the league and suffered badly when pressed heavily by City. Mourinho needs to adapt his tactics and formation for the Liverpool game or else United will suffer badly at Anfield.
In Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mourinho has three players who can beat the press and play passes under heavy pressure. These three’s presence in the midfield will help United to escape Liverpool’s intense pressing in the middle of the park. Lallana, Wijnaldum, Firmino & co will come at United ferociously, Mourinho can either choose to go route 1 by selecting Marouane Fellaini or choose to play and outpass Liverpool.
On Monday, we ll have a clear indication of what Jose Mourinho’s plan for Manchester United is. Whether he is prepared to risk it to play some attractive football or whether he will fall back into his old ways and set up his team to defend first and they try and nick a goal.
