After the signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Manchester United have a deadly front three including Anthony Martial who can potentially destroy defences if they play up to their potential. With Martial and Mkhitaryan’s pace on the counter and Zlatan’s trickery and technical ability, United’s attack are well set up to play both on the counter as well as with possession. The only question remains on who will be the number 10. Mourinho in his first press conference indicated that Wayne Rooney will no longer play as a midfielder so it is highly likely that the club captain will at least start the season as the first choice number 10.

Mourinho prefers a tactically disciplined number 10 who works hard and is very tactical about his positioning. Oscar was preferred to Juan Mata at Chelsea, Mesut Ozil was dropped or pushed to the wings in big games at Chelsea. And in his initial tenure at Chelsea, Mourinho preferred a 4-3-3 rather than a 4-2-3-1 which is his favorite formation at the moment.

So Wayne Rooney’s future at the club is up in the air but it seems that the Portuguese is prepared to give the England Captain the chance to prove himself. This will be bad news for Juan Mata who might be sold for the second time in his career by Jose Mourinho.

Manchester City are the only other top team who have a top front three in Aguero, Silva and De Bruyne. Arsenal have a striker problem and Chelsea too can’t trust Diego Costa to be injury free for the whole season.
