Manchester United with the signing of Eric Bailly already have one of the paciest defences in club football. Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia can burn the flanks and Smalling is no slouch either. With potentially Zlatan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to sign, Mourinho is assembling a potential title winning team at Old Trafford.

Manchester United fans would like to see Mourinho buy a couple of midfielders too but will be very happy on how the Portuguese has gone about finishing the transfers. It remains to be seen whether Mourinho trusts Wayne Rooney as a midfielder after his shocking performance against Iceland. Rooney’s career is at stake as he no longer has the pace or the drive to play upfront and his move to midfield has been anything but smooth. Mourinho generally prefers disciplined players in midfield and Wayne Rooney is often out of position. Rooney hasn’t adapted well to the midfield role as he generally leaves his position leaving his team prone to counters.

  1. switch rooney and herrera and I think you got it right, he has sjhown he is too slow to play no. 10

  2. Actually, Rooney’s switch to the middle has gone very smoothly and been impressive. As Allan Smith below said, switch Wayne and Ander and it clicks… rotating Herrera with Mata in that line up as well as Darmian and Fosu-Mensah with Valencia will form our strongest team. I’d also rotate Blind and Schneiderlin with Carrick coming in whenever fully fit.
