Rojo and Jones especially should be worried that Blind who is not a natural center back has been preferred over them over the course of the season. On the flipside, this has been a season where Chris Smalling has established his credentials as a top defender in Europe. A good Euro with England will give Smalling a massive confidence boost going into the new season. Although still prone to the occasional mistake, Smalling would love to play under Jose Mourinho who is known to bring out the best from his defenders and defensive midfielders.

Daley Blind would struggle to make the same number of appearances next season as Mourinho would want his centerbacks to be physically strong with good aerial presence.
