Bastian Schweinsteiger was photographed supporting his girlfriend tennis player Ana Ivanovic at the Miami Open.He injured himself while training for Germany and misses the rest of the season with his chances of making to the Euros hanging in the balance. Schweinsteiger saw his girlfriend lose in Miami as on the other side of the globe his national team Germany threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 2-3 to an young English side.
There has been a lot of talk about the German captain’s transfer to United recently. Guardiola at the beginning of the season admitted that he would have kept Schweinsteiger at the club if there was any chance that German would be fit for the entire season. But United took their chances and signed him and it looks like it has backfired on them. On the financial front,it was quite cheap for United and they would have made much more from the jersey sales but they lost out on the opportunity to get in a young replacement for Michael Carrick. Now they head into a new season without a primary playmaker in their side, Carrick has not been offered a new contract and Schweinsteiger’s fitness won’t allow him to play the entire season. United’s squad was unbalanced when Van Gaal took over but his transfer policy instead of solving the problem has only made it worse.
