Young Scottish U-21 international, Donald Love has revealed that Louis Van Gaal has not spoken to him for the past one month. His last game for United was against FC Midtjylland in Denmark when the English side lost 2-1. Love is one of the many young players who have been handed debuts by Van Gaal this season, but question marks remain on how the Dutchman treats his players.
“He told me, after the Sunderland game, I’d done well and that I was one of the better players,” Love told The Scottish Mail. “That gives you a confidence a boost going into the next game.
“But we lost the next game and I’ve fallen out of it since then. I don’t regret anything because I did my best when I was out there. But I wanted to win.
“The manager hasn’t spoken to me yet, but I think that’s just how he is. I think I see him how you lot see him. It’s either his way or no other way.
“That’s how I think he’s always been by the sounds of it. People have taken their chances, too, so I’m waiting for another chance.”
Van Gaal’s handling of Love is not something which Sir Alex would have approved off. Young players tend to make mistakes and they will need a shoulder around them to support when things are not going well for them. Not everyone is Lionel Messi or Wayne Rooney, two stars who peaked early. There are players especially defenders who peak later in their careers and managers should ensure that they don’t lost their way when things are not going right for them. Love might not have the talent for a career at Manchester United, but Love is just another player in a long list of players mishandled by Van Gaal at Old Trafford.
