Manchester United defeated Liverpool in what was an underwhelming match lit up by two fantastic goal by Christian Benteke and Anthony Martial. Mainly concentrating on Liverpool, both the pundits criticised Rodgers’ selection and the gameplan. Liverpool this year seem to be struggling to score goals as Christian Benteke’s arrival has created more confusion than confidence among the Liverpool players. They seem to take up the easy option of hitting a long ball towards the Belgian rather than try to find the killer pass. Also with Benteke alone upfront, defences can play a high line with no runners in behind. Players like Firmino,Milner are yet to settle in and with Ibe the only winger in the side, the squad is quite unbalances. Although Van Gaal will be happy about the result, the performance at times was dire. United in the first half had no cutting edge and were content with passing the ball around before the Liverpool defence. Luke Shaw looked like the only player who had any interest in going forward. But Young’s arrival and Martial’s late heroics sealed the win for the Manchester side.
