Gary Neville,Jamie Carragher and Thiery Henry discuss Arsenal’s performance in the Premier League in the last decade and whether Arsenal could challenge for the title this year. Gary bemoans Arsene Wenger’s insistence in not buying a replacement for Patrick Viera.

Arsenal have struggled to make an impact in the Premier League after their last title more than a decade ago. Neville attributes this to Wenger’s transfer policy where the Frenchman has preffered buying small creative players in central midfield rather than players with power and strength. Although Neville has a point, Wenger has setup his team to sit back and defend in recent times like last season against Manchester City. Sanchez,Walcott and “The Ox” have enough pace to hurt any team on the counter. This approach worked well in the community shield too as Arsenal defended resolutely against Chelsea to win their first title of the season. But the middle still remains weak with Coquelin having made and indifferent start to the season and with Cazorla being weak defensively. Against weaker team where Arsenal dominate the midfield, this isn’t an issue but as we saw against Liverpool in the first half, Arsenal’s midfield offered no protection to their weakened defence.

  1. Anyone to judge any team after only 3 games is a fool!! only after 6 games will you see players hitting the peak fitness and after 9 games then you will see where each team is at regards to fitness and systems !! and of course individual Performances !! I think this team what it takes to challenge this year !! and in Europe i think we will fair well !! We do need a defensive mid !! and i have my own player in mind GRZEGORZ KRYCHOWIAK…..
