Manchester United face Preston North End in the FA cup 5th round for a place in the quarterfinals. Manchester United desperatly need a win alongside a good performance. In terrible form in recent days,United have managed to win somehow but their fans are growing anxious day by day. After being treated to years of exciting football under Fergie, the Old Trafford faithful are being treated to some dire football. After bearing for almost a year under Moyes, people expected things to change under Van Gaal but the performances have remained the same. Although credit must be given to the former Barcelona manager as United even without playing well have managed to pick up points and are currently in third position in the Premier League.
Van Gaal after much pressure dropped the 3-5-2 formation and now is continuing on a diamond formation. The diamond in the midfield seems to at least on paper be a perfect fit for the players United have currently. But against Burnley,United struggled to find any sort of a midfield with players looking out of depth in that system. Wayne Rooney especially looks like a fish out of water in the deep midfield role and his erratic passing has not helped United’s attack. Manchester United have to strike form soon and this match against Preston might be the perfect opportunity.
