There has been a lot of debate regarding where Wayne Rooney will be playing under Jose Mourinho. While Mourinho has stated, Rooney will either play as a number 10 or as a striker, it remains to be seen where the Englishman will play this season.

Against Bournemouth, although Rooney scored the second goal, he moved into deep positions very often. As Carragher points out, when both Rooney and Zlatan move deep, there is nobody to run in behind them. Playing Rashford along with Zlatan makes perfect sense, as the youngster with his pace will push the defence deeper allowing Zlatan the space and time to operate within the lines. 

Carragher also mentions that Rooney could be the perfect foil for Pogba in a rotating midfield where Rooney covers for the Frenchman when he goes forward, but this will need hours put in on the training ground. Fitting in Zlatan, Rooney and Pogba remains Mourinho’s biggest problem and the victory over Bournemouth has only raised further questions
