According to the Daily Mail , Jose Mourinho has informed nine players that they can leave either permanently or on loan. Mourinho who prefers working with small squads is looking to cut down on the squad size before the season starts. The nine players reportedly are

Defenders: Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Midfielders: Bastian Schweinsteiger, Andreas Pereira and Adnan Januzaj

Strikers: Will Keane and James Wilson

Wilson and Pereira have been told that they can go out on loan and return to United if they impress during their loan spell. Fosu-Mensah and Borthwick-Jackson probably will go back to the reserves or the youth team. The biggest disappointment in this list is of course Bastian Schweinsteiger who struggled with fitness issues after his move from Bayern Munich.

One of the highest earners in the squad, United will struggle to offload the German unless they offer to pay part of his high wages. Other players like Juan Mata, Daley Blind and Memphis Depay who were in danger of being sold now seem to be assured of at least half a season more at Old Trafford.
