Anything but a victory for Real Madrid means that they are out of the race for the League title. Even a win for them will see them 7 points behind Barcelona with seven games to go and it would take injuries and horrible form for Barcelona to lose the title. But this being Zidane’s first el clasico,it is important for them to perform well and gain some momentum before their Champions League match.
There are injury concerns with Varane and Kroos being doubtful for the game. Varane suffered a muscle problem while playing for France where as Kroos got injured after a tackle by Jese Rodriguez in training.
Casemiro is widely expected to start the game as he seems to be key to Zidane’s plans in stopping Barcelona. Whether he will have a static role in front of the defence or a moving man-marking role, Casemiro will determine how much control Real can exert in the middle of the park. The front three of Real Madrid have been left behind by Barcelona’s own MSN and they need a miracle to win this game against the European Champions.
