This weekend sees Spain’s two biggest football clubs in one of the most watched football games around the world. Barcelona currently lead Real by ten points the league and with 8 games to go even a Real Madrid victory in the clasico means nothing. But even a dead rubber between these teams is fought with utmost passion, desire and sometimes hatred for each other. Team selection for Barcelona should be straightforward especially with Alba back in contention after suffering a knock playing for Spain.

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets both didn’t play for Spain in the international break so are comparatively fresher than their opponents. Real’s midfield has to choke these two Spaniards to cut off the supply lines to the front three. All three of Barcelona’s attackers have traveled a long way and havee played grueling world cup qualification matches for their home countries, this might have an effect later in the game especially if Barcelona need a goal. Lionel Messi needs one more goal to make it 500 goals in his career for club and country and he has the perfect occasion to achieve that record.

Enrique will want the midfield three to starve Real Madrid off the ball and then feed it to the attackers who at the moment are scoring goals at will. Messi’s movement during the game is what Real Madrid should look out for. When Barcelona’s play gets a bit static and unimaginative, Messi starts dropping deep and starts creating play for the forwards. His movement creates space for Suarez to move into, which in turn creates space for Neymar. The front three of Barcelona are very hard to contain and Real have to come up with a special performance to keep them from scoring.
